Protein

Thymidine kinase

Gene

TK

Organism
Enterobacteria phage T4 (Bacteriophage T4)
Status
Reviewed - Annotation score: 2 out of 5- Protein inferred from homologyi

Functioni

This thymidine kinase is one of the enzymes that catalyze DNA precursor synthesis. Although tk is a nonessential gene, some strains of host E.coli do not support the growth of phages that lack this gene.

Catalytic activityi

ATP + thymidine = ADP + thymidine 5'-phosphate.
