General annotation (Comments)

Function

Implicated in endonuclease cleavage of capped RNA primers. Displays an elongation factor activity in viral RNA synthesis. Dispensable for viral transcription, but not replication.

Subunit structure

Influenza RNA polymerase is composed of three subunits: PB1, PB2 and PA.

Post-translational modification

Phosphorylated on serines and threonines by host kinases, including human casein kinase II By similarity.

Sequence similarities

Belongs to the influenza viruses PA family.

Alternative products

This entry describes 2 isoforms produced by ribosomal frameshifting. [Align] [Select]
Isoform PA (identifier: P13177-1)

This isoform has been chosen as the 'canonical' sequence. All positional information in this entry refers to it. This is also the sequence that appears in the downloadable versions of the entry.
Isoform PA-X (identifier: P0DJV1-1)

The sequence of this isoform can be found in the external entry P0DJV1.
Isoforms of the same protein are often annotated in two different entries if their sequences differ significantly.
