Protein

Alpha-conotoxin BnIA

Gene
N/A
Organism
Conus bandanus (Banded marbled cone)
Status
Reviewed-Annotation score: Annotation score: 4 out of 5-Experimental evidence at protein leveli

Functioni

Alpha-conotoxins act on postsynaptic membranes, they bind to the nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChR) and thus inhibit them. This toxin inhibits acetylcholine-evoked currents reversibly in oocytes expressing the human alpha-7 nAChR, and blocks nerve-evoked skeletal muscle contractions in isolated mouse neuromuscular preparations, but with a very low affinity.1 Publication
