Minor spike protein

Gene

H

Organism
Enterobacteria phage phiK (Bacteriophage phi-K)
Status
Reviewed-Annotation score: Annotation score: 2 out of 5-Protein predictedi

Functioni

Minor spike component of the viral shell. Involved in the ejection of the phage DNA in the host and is injected with the DNA in the periplasmic space of the host. Involved in the determination of the phage host-range.

Miscellaneous

Phi KhT, a host-range mutant of phi K, can grow on E.coli C and B, besides K12, and is more thermosensitive than the parental phage phi K.
