General annotation (Comments)

Function

Actins are highly conserved proteins that are involved in various types of cell motility and are ubiquitously expressed in all eukaryotic cells.

Multiple isoforms are involved in various cellular functions such as cytoskeleton structure, cell mobility, chromosome movement and muscle contraction.

Subcellular location

Cytoplasmcytoskeleton.

Tissue specificity

All cells and tissues of the developing embryo. Later in development, expression is higher in midgut, brain, nerve cord, and gonads. Ref.8

Induction

By 20-hydroxyecdysone.

Miscellaneous

In Drosophila there are 6 closely related actin genes.

Sequence similarities

Belongs to the actin family.
