General annotation (Comments)

Function

This enzyme is part of the viral RNA-dependent RNA polymerase complex.

Catalytic activity

Nucleoside triphosphate + RNA(n) = diphosphate + RNA(n+1).

Subunit structure

The polymerase complex is composed of four chains, the three other proteins of the complex (alpha, gamma, and delta chains) are supplied by the host cell.

Miscellaneous

This is the first protein for which the amino acid sequence has been entirely deduced from the nucleotide sequence data.

Sequence similarities

Contains 1 RdRp catalytic domain.
