General annotation (Comments)

Function

Essential for photosystem II (PSII) biogenesis; required for assembly of an early intermediate in PSII assembly that includes D2 (psbD) and cytochrome b559. Has been suggested (Ref.5) to be required for chlorophyll a binding. Ref.1 Ref.7

Subcellular location

Plastidchloroplast thylakoid membrane; Peripheral membrane protein; Lumenal side. Note: Restricted to the stromal lamelae. Translocation into the thylakoid lumen occurs via the Tat pathway. Ref.1

Tissue specificity

Expression in green tissue, not roots.

Developmental stage

Accumulates also in dark-grown seedlings.
