Required for development of all cranial ganglia but not associated glial cells. Regulates epiphysial neurogenesis, acting partially redundantly with ascl1a and downstream of flh. Required for the development of basal forebrain dopaminergic neurons; involved in the specification of dopaminergic progenitor cells.
