Involved in the modulation of the chemotaxis system; catalyzes the demethylation of specific methylglutamate residues introduced into the chemoreceptors (methyl-accepting chemotaxis proteins) by CheR.By similarity
Part of the second chemotactic pathway (cheOp2); there are 3 operons encoding multiple homologs of the chemosensory proteins in R.sphaeroides. This protein is essential for chemotaxis, and is able to partially complement an E.coli cheB deletion mutant.
