General annotation (Comments)

Function

Casein kinases are operationally defined by their preferential utilization of acidic proteins such as caseins as substrates. It can phosphorylate a large number of proteins. Participates in Wnt signaling. Phosphorylates CTNNB1 at 'Ser-45'. May play a role in segregating chromosomes during mitosis By similarity.

Catalytic activity

ATP + a protein = ADP + a phosphoprotein.

Subunit structure

Monomer. Interacts with the Axin complex. Interacts with TUT1, leading to TUT1 phosphorylation By similarity.

Subcellular location

Cytoplasm By similarity. Cytoplasmcytoskeletoncentrosome By similarity. Chromosomecentromerekinetochore By similarity. Nucleus speckle By similarity. Note: Localizes to the centrosome in interphase cells, and to kinetochore fibers during mitosis By similarity.

Sequence similarities

Belongs to the protein kinase superfamily. CK1 Ser/Thr protein kinase family. Casein kinase I subfamily.

Contains 1 protein kinase domain.
