Thiol-dependent hydrolysis of ester, thioester, amide, peptide and isopeptide bonds formed by the C-terminal Gly of ubiquitin (a 76-residue protein attached to proteins as an intracellular targeting signal).

Specifically inhibited by spautin-1 (specific and potent autophagy inhibitor-1), a derivative of MBCQ that binds to USP13 and inhibits deubiquitinase activity.By similarity
