Functioni

Alpha-conotoxins act on postsynaptic membranes, they bind to the nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChR) and thus inhibit them. At 1 µM, the synthetic peptide reversibly blocks mammalian nAChR alpha-1/beta-1/gamma/delta and, to a lesser degree, alpha-6/alpha-3/beta-2, but has no effect on alpha-7. At 10 µM, it reversibly blocks nAChR alpha-3/beta-2, but has no effect on nAChR alpha-3/beta-4, alpha-4/beta-2, alpha-4/beta-4 or alpha-6/alpha-3/beta-4. Intramuscular injection of 10-20 µg of the synthetic peptide in goldfish causes death. Intravenous injection of the same doses in Kunming male mice causes unconsciousness. Does not inhibit potassium channels.1 Publication
