General annotation (Comments)

Function

Catalyzes the biosynthesis of pterostilbene from resveratrol. Pterostilbene has both antifungal and pharmacological properties. Also has activity toward resveratrol monomethyl ether (RME). Ref.1

Catalytic activity

2 S-adenosyl-L-methionine + trans-resveratrol = 2 S-adenosyl-L-homocysteine + pterostilbene. Ref.1

Induction

Expression in leaves is induced by different stresses, such as downy mildew (P.viticola) infection, ultraviolet light, and AlCl3 treatment. Ref.1

Sequence similarities

Belongs to the methyltransferase superfamily. Type 2 family. COMT subfamily.

Biophysicochemical properties

Kinetic parameters:

KM=12 µM for resveratrol Ref.1

KM=14 µM for resveratrol monomethyl ether
