DIMBOA UDP-glucosyltransferase BX9

Gene

BX9

Organism
Zea mays (Maize)
Status
Reviewed-Annotation score: Annotation score: 4 out of 5-Experimental evidence at protein leveli

Functioni

Glucosyltransferase involved in the last step of benzoxazinoid glucoside biosynthesis. Catalyzes the glucosylation of hydroxamic acids utilizing UDP-glucose as glucose doner, reducing the toxicity of these natural insecticides for storage. Can use DIMBOA and DIBOA as substrates, HMBOA (2-hydroxy-7-methoxy-2H-1,4-benzoxazin-3(4H)-one) and HBOA (2-hydroxy-2H-1,4-benzoxazin-3(4H)-one) with a lower efficiency, but not indole acetic acid or quercitin.1 Publication

Catalytic activityi

UDP-alpha-D-glucose + 2,4-dihydroxy-7-methoxy-2H-1,4-benzoxazin-3(4H)-one = UDP + (2R)-4-hydroxy-7-methoxy-3-oxo-3,4-dihydro-2H-1,4-benzoxazin-2-yl beta-D-glucopyranoside.2 Publications
UDP-alpha-D-glucose + 2,4-dihydroxy-2H-1,4-benzoxazin-3(4H)-one = UDP + (2R)-4-hydroxy-3-oxo-3,4-dihydro-2H-1,4-benzoxazin-2-yl beta-D-glucopyranoside.2 Publications
