General annotation (Comments)

Function

Glucosyltransferase involved in the last step of benzoxazinoid glucoside biosynthesis. Catalyzes the glucosylation of hydroxamic acids utilizing UDP-glucose as glucose doner, reducing the toxicity of these natural insecticides for storage. Can use DIMBOA and DIBOA as substrates, HMBOA (2-hydroxy-7-methoxy-2H-1,4-benzoxazin-3(4H)-one) and HBOA (2-hydroxy-2H-1,4-benzoxazin-3(4H)-one) with a lower efficiency, but not indole acetic acid or quercitin. Ref.1

Catalytic activity

UDP-alpha-D-glucose + 2,4-dihydroxy-7-methoxy-2H-1,4-benzoxazin-3(4H)-one = UDP + (2R)-4-hydroxy-7-methoxy-3-oxo-3,4-dihydro-2H-1,4-benzoxazin-2-yl beta-D-glucopyranoside. Ref.1 Ref.3

UDP-alpha-D-glucose + 2,4-dihydroxy-2H-1,4-benzoxazin-3(4H)-one = UDP + (2R)-4-hydroxy-3-oxo-3,4-dihydro-2H-1,4-benzoxazin-2-yl beta-D-glucopyranoside. Ref.1 Ref.3

Cofactor

Magnesium or calcium. Ref.3

Tissue specificity

Expressed at the same levels in roots and shoots. Ref.1

Developmental stage

Highly expressed in young seedlings up to 4 days after imbibition. Ref.1

Sequence similarities

Belongs to the UDP-glycosyltransferase family.
