Desulfotomaculum ruminis sp. (strain ATCC 23193 / DSM 2154 / NCIB 8452 / DL) is an anaerobic, spore-forming, sulfate-reducing, Gram-positive bacterium. It can convert alanine to pyruvate via an NAD-dependent alanine dehydrogenase. D. ruminis contained high activities of soluble NADH and NADPH dehydrogenases.
