Phycisphaera mikurensis (strain C2-3) is a facultative anaerobic and motile Gram-negative bacterium isolated from a marine alga (Porphyra sp.) collected on Mikura Island, Japan. Colonies are circular and pink-pigmented and cells which reproduce by binary fission, are spherical and have a single flagellum and a pili. The temperature range for growth are between 10 and 30 degrees Celsius with an optimum at 25-30 degres Celsius. P.mikurensis possesses carotenoid-type pigment. (Adapted from PMID: 19700920).
