Halanaerobium sp. (strain sapolanicus) is an anaerobic, halophilic Gramm-positive bacterium isolated from the Great Salt Lake in Utah and has since been isolated from diverse saline environments such as oil reserviors, brine-seawater interfaces and hypersaline sediments. It is extremely salt-tolerant and is able to grow in concentrations of salt as high as 25%. The optimal temperature range for growth is between 34 and 42 degrees Celsius.
