M line
| Definition | In electron micrographs of the sarcomere, the M line appears as a series of parallel electron-dense lines in the central zone of the A band impliing that the M line is needed for the regular packing of the thick filaments. The M line maintains the myosin filaments in a hexagonal lattice. |
