Cell membrane

The cell membrane is the selectively permeable membrane which separates the cytoplasm from its surroundings. In most archaea, bacteria, fungi, plants, and algae the cell membrane is enclosed by at least the cell wall. Also used when it is not known if the protein is found in or associated with the inner or outer cell membrane.
