RNA suppression of termination
| Definition | Protein which is derived from an mRNA by suppression of termination, a process in which a tRNA misreads a termination codon thereby producing a longer protein. RNA secondary structure after the stop codon plays a role in this process. The efficiency of suppression of termination is about 10% for most viruses. Termination suppression is involved in polyprotein synthesis of gamma and epsilon retroviruses, as well as all togaviridae. |
