Keyword Inhibition of host poly(A)-binding protein by virus

rdf/xml obo
DefinitionViral protein involved in the inhibition of host translation by inhibiting the poly(A)-binding protein PABPC1. Viruses have evolved ways of interacting with the host translational machinery to shutoff host gene expression. This global inhibition of cellular protein synthesis serves to ensure maximal viral gene expression and to evade host immune response. One common target is the translation initiation factor PABPC1. Some viruses proteolytically cleave PABPC1, while others displace PABPC1 from EIF4G1.
