DefinitionProtein which, if defective, causes microphthalmia, a developmental anomaly in which the eyeballs are abnormally small. Disease severity ranges from moderate reduction of the size of a single eye to complete bilateral absence of ocular tissues. Microphthalmia can occur in isolation or as part of a syndrome.
