| Definition | Viral protein which prevents the activation of the antiviral state induced by interferon (IFN) in the host cell, thereby allowing the virus to replicate optimally. The antiviral state is the result of a signaling pathway induced by IFN-alpha or IFN-beta following viral infection. It leads to the transcription of various cellular antiviral genes coding for host defense proteins. |
