Definition

Protein involved in the biosynthesis of the pyridine nucleotides NAD and NADP. NAD may be synthesized de novo from aspartate and dihydroxyacetone phosphate or from tryptophan. NAD may also be synthesized from nicotinamide or nicotinic acid. NADP is formed via the phosphorylation of NAD by NAD+ kinase.
